Spring Sports: Recaps & Post-Season Recognitions
This spring, several of our student-athletes were recognized with post-season honors by coaches' associations and media outlets.
Among that group, five athletes also reached career milestones with the Knights this season. Baseball standout Ryan Morash '18 posted his 100th hit in May, a particularly impressive accomplishment for a junior. Ace softball pitcher Maddy Bedrock '17, who started in every regular-season game this spring, also reached the 100-hit mark.
In boys' lacrosse, scoring powerhouse Nick Cooper '17 reached the 100-goal milestone—an especially notable accomplishment considering the varsity boys' lacrosse program is only in its second year. In fact, the attackman recorded 94 of those goals during the team's inaugural 2016 season to lead the state in goals. In girls' lacrosse, junior Ameila Kirby, who has led the team in scoring for the past two seasons, also recorded her 100th goal.
In track and field, junior CJ Licata cemented his reputation as one of the best high-school throwers in the state. He won both shotput and discus at the Somerset County Relay Championship and the Skyland Conference Championships. He added a first-place discus throw at the Prep B tournament and a shotput win at the NJSIAA Non-Public B Sectionals, setting a personal record of 61- 8.5. In June, Licata qualified for the Meet of Champions with a dual win at the NJSIAA Non-Public B Championships, and went on to take second place in the shotput at the MOC. June also saw Licata compete at the New Balance Nationals in North Carolina, where he finished third in his flight and seventh overall.
