Steve Leo enters his first season as the head coach of the Outdoor Track and Field programs here at Gill. Leo is a veteran of the sport, as he has coached middle and high school track programs for the past decade and has also served as a strength and conditioning coach within the private sector for the past 20 years at the collegiate, Olympic, and professional level.
Leo currently owns and operates the Parisi Speed School of Rockaway and is a member of the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a USA Weightlifting Level 2 coach and Jumps/Springs Specialist.
“I love Strength and Conditioning, especially the development of speed, because of the impact it can have on an athletes performance on the field and it also helps athletes recover more efficiently and prevents injuries,” he says.
Leo also serves as Gill’s Head of Strength and Conditioning and has worked extensively with all of the Upper School’s athletic programs. He has helped multiple athletes claim individual sectional/group titles along with qualifying for the Meet of Champions.
When it comes specifically to the track and field teams, Leo could not be more excited for the future of the programs.
“The opportunity to grow the program and help the athletes that are currently here is what I am looking forward to most,” he says. “I love helping individuals reach their highest potential. We have a chance to be a competitive program in the Non-Public B and Prep League. I look forward to the challenge and am excited to see where this program can go.”
