Track and Field Opens Season at Top Invitational

The boys’ and girls’ track teams began their seasons by competing at the Summit Invitational this past Saturday, April 6. The Knights had a solid showing in a field that included over 30 schools from the area.
 
Gill did especially well in the relay events. Having the highest finish on the day was the boys’ frosh/soph 4x800 relay as the team of Andrew Young ’21, Allen La Tournous ’21, James Koether ’21, and William Strong ’22 finished 14th with a time of 9:53.24.
 
Also garnering top-16 finishes were the boys’ frosh/soph 4x200 relay of Max Mullen ’21, Brian Young ’21, Bart Benoit ’21, and Sohan De Silva ’21 (16th – 1:48.79) and the boys’ 4x800 relay of Niels Rongen ’20, Matthew D'Ovidio ’19, Teddy Lazar ’20, and Ansh Patel ’21 (16th – 9:37.69)
 
Leading the way individually were the boy throwers as Mark Rusas ’19 had the top-individual placing for Gill by grabbing sixth in the javelin with a significant personal record of 139 feet. Also having a great performance was Jack Feldman ’19 as he took seventh in discus (116 feet, two inches). Joe Licata ’22 had the second-highest finish by a freshman in the discus as he grabbed 26th place (99 feet, eight inches).
 
On the girls’ side, Anna Mikula ’20 had a strong showing in the javelin as she took 26th overall (72 feet, ten inches). Emma Ryan ’22 also performed well in the mile, breaking the seven-minute mark with a time of 6:56.59 and finishing 71st.
 
The Knights are back in action later today as they take on Manville in their first dual meet of the season. Good luck, everyone!
