Knights Explode for 10 Runs in 1st, Donofrio ’19 Collects 100th Hit
The Knights could not have asked for a better start to their contest against North Plainfield on Thursday, April 25, as they erupted for ten runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back as they ended up winning the contest 12-8.
Junior Mike Taylor had an impressive offensive showing as he went 1-3 with two RBI, two runs, one walk and one stolen base. A pair of sophomores, Jake Sempervive and Joseph Skapinetz, also had great days at the plate as Sempervive went 1-1 with two RBI, two runs and a walk while Skapinetz went 1-3 with a double, two RBI and a run. Also providing a spark for the Knights was freshman Christian Mote as he had two walks, two runs, and three stolen bases.
Also making it a memorable day for the program was senior catcher AJ Donofrio as he smacked a hard single for his 100th career hit. He joins only a handful of players in Gill’s history to record at least 100 hits.
“I’m very happy for AJ to have reached such a prestigious milestone,” said head coach Dave Pasquale. “He’s worked incredibly hard over his four years at Gill and has been a pleasure to coach. In addition to this remarkable individual accomplishment, he’s been a huge reason for our team’s success over the last several years.”
