The baseball team got off to a great start last week as sophomore lefty Jake Sempervive tossed a five-hit shutout and Joe Skapinetz ‘21 went 4-for-4 with two RBI's in a 14-0 thrashing of Morris Catholic on Monday, April 15.
AJ Donofrio ‘19 singled, doubled, and blasted a two-run home run for Gill. Logan Mote ‘22 went 2-for-3 and Christian Mote ‘22 added a two-run double. Carter Nowack ‘22 picked up his first varsity hit, Ryan Brandl ‘22 scored his first-ever run, and Anthony Curialle ‘22 logged his first RBI.
The Knights then fell to defending Group III state champion Somerville, 14-3, on Tuesday, April 16, despite base hits from Mike Giammarino ‘19 and Eddie McCarthy ‘20. Michael Taylor ’20 also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Gill wrapped up the week with a win as Nate Fodor ‘22 (2-for-3) laced a two-run double in the fourth inning to snap a 3-3 tie as the Knights defeated local rival Bernards High School, 7-5, on Thursday, April 18. Donofrio and Taylor had two hits apiece as the Knights improved to 5-4 on the season. Matt Kalinak ‘21 scored twice and added a run-scoring single in the four-run fourth.
