Middle School Swim Season Ends on High Note
The middle school co-ed swim team ended its season earlier this month at their annual end-of-the season championship, the Jay Levin Memorial Invitational.
After weeks of practicing and competing in dual meets against Wardlaw-Hartridge, Newark Academy, and Pingry, the Knights were ready to compete at the championship meet.
Siyara Kilcoyne ’24 had an excellent day for the Knights, winning the 100 individual medley and taking second in the 50 breaststroke. Addison Rodriguez ’25 had a breakout performance, winning the 25 freestyle and being crowned the fastest girl at the meet. Juliana Holmes ’25 also had a terrific showing, grabbing second place in the 50 backstroke and finishing third in the 50 freestyle. One of GSB’s youngest swimmers, Erin Crickenberger ’27, finished in fourth in the 100 individual medley, and took sixth in the 50 butterfly.
The relay team of Kilcoyne, Holmes, Rodriguez, and Crickenberger took first in the 100 freestyle relay, and took second in 100 medley relay. Also, Bobby ‘27 and Ciara ‘26 DeCarlo, Olivia Bailey ‘24, and Ella Rapp ‘24 dropped significant time and did great jobs representing GSB! Overall, the girls took third place, barely finishing behind host Elizabeth.
“We were missing quite a few swimmers due to illness and injury, so it was unfortunate to not have the full squad be able to experience this fun meet,” said head coach Nolan Silbernagel. “However, the kids who were able to come did phenomenally and really had some great performances. This definitely bodes well for the future of Gill swimming.”
