The girls’ swim team traveled to Rutgers University on January 7 to take on Franklin High School. The Knights were able to carry their strong start from 2018 into 2019 as the girls came out on top by a score of 61-33 and improved their record to 3-0.
A trio of swimmers led the way for Gill as junior Rebecca Michaels ’20 and freshmen Maddie and Olivia Soultanian each won two races. Michaels touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:28.37) and 100 butterfly (1:07.93), M. Soultanian won the 50 freestyle (27.17) and 100 backstroke (1:07.98) and O. Soultanian grabbed first in the 200 freestyle (2:22.20) and 500 freestyle (6:40.72).
Also earning individual wins were sophomore Laura Howard in the 100 freestyle (1:07.11) and freshman Ella Quincy in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.45).
Gill came away with two relay victories as well, with the team of Howard, M. Soultanian, O. Soultanian, and Michaels winning the 200 freestyle (1:56.80) and 400 freestyle (4:24.10) relays.
“I am very proud of the girls for getting a win right out of the winter break,” said head coach Nolan Silbernagel. “To earn three wins against solid prep and conference opponents is an awesome sign as we head into championship season.”
The Knights enter the pool again on January 16 when they take on Hun School.
