Swimming Sweeps Warren Hills

Both the boys’ and girls’ swim teams came out victorious on Tuesday, January 21, as the girls won, 112-56, while the boys came out on top, 92-43. It was the first win of the season for the boys’ team, and the girls’ squad improved to 5-1 on the season.

 

“I was so proud of the boys for getting their first-ever Skyland Conference win,” said head coach Nolan Silbernagel. “They worked extremely hard for this, and it was great to see them celebrate a victory. It was also a great win for our girls, as they rebounded nicely from our last dual meet against Bernards.”

 

Gill had multiple double-winners from both teams. Becca Michaels ’20 touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:27.31) and 100 freestyle (1:01.50), Olivia Soultanian '22 won the 200 (2:24.87) and 500 freestyle (6:45.12), and her twin sister Maddie grabbed gold in the 50 freestyle (26.88) and 100 backstroke (1:09.47). Annie Chowansky '22 was GSB’s other individual winner, claiming the 100 butterfly (1:15.56).

 

The Knights also swept all three relays, as Michaels, the Soultanians, and Laura Howard ’21 won the 200 (1:57.47) and 400 (4:24.16) freestyle relays, while Scooter Hulsen ’22, Kelsey Breuer ’20, Chowansky, and Anne Wang ’22 were victorious in the 200 medley relay (2:17.22).

 

On the boys’ side, Robert Brandl ’20 won the 200 freestyle (2:12.44) and 100 butterfly (1:06.78), Jonathan Osma ’20 touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:29.16) and 100 backstroke (1:05.78), and Jake Baber ’21 was victorious in the 50 (26.56) and 100 (1:03.84) freestyles. Other individual winners included Adrian Massuet ’20 in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.53) and Evan Matthews '20 in the 500 freestyle (7:26.33).

 

Gill also came out on top in the 200 medley relay of Osma, Massuet, Brandl, and Baber (1:58.31) and 200 freestyle relay (1:46.37).

 

The Knights will have their final Skyland Conference dual meet on Wednesday, January 29, against Belvidere.
