Knights Swim Well But Fall to Somerville
Despite winning six out of the 11 events, the Gill St. Bernard’s boys’ swim team fell to Somerville on Wednesday, December 11th, by the score of 103-64.
Leading the way for the Knights were seniors Jonathan Osma and Rob Brandl, both winning two events. The day was especially memorable for Osma, as he re-broke his school records in the 200 individual medley (2:27.59) and 100 backstroke (1:05.00). Brandl also had impressive swims in the 200 freestyle (2:14.96) and 100 butterfly (1:06.31).
Also coming out victorious for GSB was the boys’ 200 medley relay team of Brandl, Osma, senior Adrian Massuet, and junior Jake Baber in a time of 1:55.31. That same relay team also came together to touch first in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:43.48.
“I was really proud of the boys and their efforts,” said head coach Nolan Silbernagel. “They clearly swam fast, and that shows by winning the majority of the races. Somerville has a lot of depth, so it was a tough meet, but I like where our times are at right now and how they are performing.”
The Knights’ next conference meet is against Voorhees on Wednesday, December 18th.
