Yesterday, the Gill St. Bernard's-Immaculata Hockey squad defeated Morris Catholic-DePaul-St. Elizabeth 2-0 ending a two-season drought for the Knights. Both goals came from sophomore Edward McCarthy, who scored with 7:02 remaining in the second period and then again in the final 26 seconds of the game. Freshman goalie Matt Cooper fended off 25 shots to give GSB-Immaculata the shutout win.
Boding well for the future of the sport at Gill, several of the freshmen players honed skills with the school’s Middle School league last season: Cooper, Liam Jones, Brenen Lavoie, Jake Schmidt and Connor Udoff. Rounding out this year’s team are juniors Lily Cannon, AJ Donofrio, Mark Lewis and Cole Miller; sophomores Samantha Lowe and McCarthy; and freshman Vincent Cucci.
On December 9, the team faces Whippany Park High School at 8:15 pm. The game will be held at Mennen Arena.
