The ice hockey team has been on a complete tear over the last two weeks, winning four-straight games while outscoring its opponents, 32-3.
The Knights got things going on Thursday, January 16, defeating Morris Catholic, 11-1. Brenen Lavoie ’21 exploded for five goals and added an assist. Also having an exceptional day was captain Eddie McCarthy ’20, scoring three goals and adding four assists. Matt Bloomenthal ’22 and Liam Jones ’21 each scored a goal and recorded two assists. Goalie Matt Cooper ’21 stopped five of six shots for the win.
GSB next hit the ice on Wednesday, January 22, beating Newton, 5-0. McCarthy, Lavoie, Jones, Bloomenthal, and Nico Gattoni ’23 all scored for Gill. Alex Steinberg ’22 had a strong day between the pipes, recording ten saves to earn the shutout.
Gill had its toughest test of this stretch on Friday, January 24, when they Knights were victorious against Nutley, 5-1. Steinberg was sensational in the net, recording 24 saves for the win. Christian Mote ’22 led GSB with two goals while Lavoie added one goal and two assists.
On Saturday, January 25, the Knights were determined to keep their hot streak alive on Senior Knight when they honored lone senior and captain Eddie McCarthy for his strong contributions to the program over the past four years. Playing with intensity and passion, GSB once again took down the Crusaders by a score of 11-1. Lavoie had another great game, scoring four goals and recording two assists. Christian Mote scored two goals and added an assist while his brother, Logan Mote ’22, added a goal and provided three assists. Jones also had a goal and three assists on the day.
Gill looks to keep up the momentum on Saturday, February 1, against West Morris at 8:15 p.m.
