DaSilva, Wiggins Earn Hockey Coaches of the Year Award

It is always important to have a dedicated and experienced individual to lead a sports programs at the high school varsity level. Luckily for Gill’s ice hockey team, the Knights have two of those coaches.

Co-head coaches Greg DaSilva and Chris Wiggins were both named Coach of the Year by the Morris County Hockey League after the program’s incredible turn around season this past winter.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for this award, but this means so much more to us than individual accolades,” said Wiggins. “It goes to show that the hard work everyone’s put in over the past three years hasn’t gone unnoticed. Our goal coming into GSB was to put the hockey program on the map; this is proof we’re doing just that.”

This winter, the Knights recorded their first winning season with an 8-6-5 record, won their first-ever conference tournament game, and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in program history as well.

“Having the programs first winning season in school history was a huge accomplishment and something everyone felt really good about,” said DaSilva. “We had a great year but we know we’re only scratching the surface. We have our goals in place for next season and we’re excited to get back to work. Couldn’t be more proud of how the students handled themselves and how the school embraced the hockey program.”
