Last night, in a home match-up against Bridgewater Raritan High, senior guard Samantha Kramer sank two baskets in the first few minutes of the game, bringing her to 1,000 points as varsity starter on the girls' basketball team. She finished Tuesday’s away game against Franklin High only four points away from the 1,000-point milestone, so fans, coaches and family members came prepared last night with banners, cameras, flowers and commemorative cakes.
Earlier this year, Kramer committed to play for Division I Fairfield University next fall. She has been a staple of the girls' roster since her ninth-grade year. She averages more than 13 points per game and contributed 22 points and nine assists in last night’s 73-51 victory.
Kramer is the second varsity girls' basketball player to hit 1,000 this season. In December, senior Lauren McBride reached the 1,000-point milestone in a victory over Metuchen, in which she contributed 18 points. This is McBride's second year at Gill, having played for South Hunterdon before that. Her teammates are thrilled that she hit 1,000 points while a GSB Knight.
