The middle school girls’ basketball team concluded its season last week with an exclamation point, winning the inaugural Middle School Athletic Conference Championship with a come-from-behind victory against Morristown-Beard, 21-14.
GSB reached the finals with a semifinal win over Far Hills by one point. The victory came after a clutch, three-pointer late in the game by Catie Lutz ‘25. The team was led by eighth graders Talia Licata ‘24, Elliana Toledo ‘24 and Samantha Leo ‘24. The team finished with an overall record of 4-4, winning four of their last five games.
“The team steadily improved as a group from the start of the season up until the championship game,” said head coach Mike Surella. “Their effort and energy was outstanding as evidenced by their relentless defensive pressure and toughness in games leading to the championship. We look forward to another championship run next season as we return an experienced and talented group of seventh graders.”
