Boys’ Basketball Extends Winning Streak
The boys’ basketball team has been on a tear over the past week, winning four-straight games against Skyland Conference opponents.
The Knights returned to conference play on January 14, defeating Bridgewater-Raritan 96-50. Isaac Hester ’23 exploded for 24 points, nine rebounds, and five assists to help lead the Knights. Zach Martini also had a solid showing, recording another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Will Soucie ’20 (15 points, eight rebounds), Denver Anglin ’22 (15 points), and Mack Mgbako ’23 (15 points) provided strong contributions throughout the game as well.
The Knights’ following game was one of its most anticipated of the season as they took local rival and fellow top-20 program Watchung Hills. In what was an electric atmosphere, GSB came out on top, 57-46. Anglin led all scorers with 19 points, Martini recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Mgbako hit double-digit scoring with ten points.
Gill was able to hold off Montgomery in its following contest, besting the Cougars, 63-52, on January 17. Martini had one of his best games of the season, scoring 19 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. Also hitting double-digit points were Hester (11), Soucie (ten), and Mgbako (10).
GSB improved its conference divisional record to 6-0 with a convincing, 67-43, victory over Hillsborough on Tuesday, January 21. Mgbako recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as did Martini again with 17 points and ten rebounds. Soucie hit double-digits scoring with ten points and Nick Policano ’20 grabbed nine rebounds and added five points.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday. January 25, against Brooklyn Collegiate (NY).
