Boys’ Basketball Cruises to Second Round of Tournament
The boys’ basketball team advanced to the second round of the NJSIAA Non-Public, North B tournament by defeating Cristo Rey yesterday, 94-42.
The Knights really took control of the game in the second quarter as they outscored their opponent 21-2. Having huge nights for Gill were Connor Murphy ’19 and Zach Martini ’20 as both players recorded double-doubles. Murphy scored 17 points and had 15 rebounds while Martini added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Also having strong performances were Will Soucie ’20 (14 points, six assists), Evan Portnoi ’20 (12 points), Tristian Jeffries ’21 (10 points), and Thomas Stinson ’21 (six points, nine rebounds).
Second-seeded Gill will continue its state tournament run on Friday, March 1, when the Knights host seventh-seeded St. Mary.
