Boys’ Basketball Takes on Top Competition

It was a busy weekend for the boys’ basketball team, as the Knights took on some of the best squads in New Jersey, and in the entire country.

GSB got things going on Friday, February 7, when the team battled Sierra Canyon (California), the 17th-ranked program in the nation. The Knights certainly held their own against this powerhouse program, with each team scoring an even 27 points in the second half, but eventually fell by a score of 74-58.

Four Knights were able to reach double-digit scoring points; Mack Mgbako ’23 (16), Zach Martini ’20 (12), Will Soucie ’20 (12), and Denver Anglin ’22 (10).

Gill had no time to reflect on its loss as the Knights were back in action the following night, this time against Camden, the top-ranked team in New Jersey. GSB battled the Panthers the entire game, storming back from a nine-point deficit at halftime, but eventually fell 67-63. Anglin had a monster game for the Knights, scoring 30 points to lead all players. Zach Martini added 14 points and four rebounds, and Mgbako had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Knights are back in action on Tuesday, February 11, against Rutgers Prep in a battle of unbeaten teams in conference play.
