Knights Compete in Major Invitational

The boys’ cross country team competed at the New Balance Shore Coaches Invitational in Holmdel on Saturday, October 5. There were over 6,000 runners in 27 different races at this statewide championship. Gill competed in the “Varsity F” race and finished 15th out of 22 schools.

Setting the tone for GSB was William Strong ‘22, finishing 66th out of a field of 165 competitors, with a time of 18 minutes and 52 seconds. Rounding out Gill’s top-five finishers were Teddy Lazar ‘20 (88th), James Koether ‘21 (91st), Tyler Tellalian ‘23 (95th), and Andrew Young ‘21 (104th).

“Holmdel is a tough, hilly course,” said Head Coach Mike Parker. “We were fortunate to race in very good weather conditions; however, and our varsity five runners averaged a time of 19 minutes and 27 seconds, which is very good. Will Strong broke 19 minutes for the first time in his career, and Teddy, James, and Tyler all ran PR’s, so I am very happy with them.”

Anne Wang ‘22 competed in the girls’ “Varsity F” race and placed 140th overall with a time of 26 minutes and 25 seconds.

It appears the Knights are hitting their stride just in time for the Somerset County Championships, which will take place on Thursday, October 10.
