The girls’ soccer team lost a tough battle against Somerville in the second round of the Somerset County Tournament on Saturday, October 12.
The eighth-seeded Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but Sam Lowe ’20 connected on a goal to put the ninth-seeded Knights on the board before halftime.
Unfortunately, GSB could not sustain this momentum and allowed two more goals in the second half to fall, 3-1. Goalie Teresa Zimmer ’20 was active all day as she recorded an incredible 16 saves in the loss.
The Knights experienced better success earlier in the week by defeating Bound Brook on Monday, October 7, 8-0. Emily Raia ’20 was on fire as she scored four goals and also had three assists. Tess Kelly ’20 added two goals, while Caroline Solondz ’21 and Lexi Yates ’20 each added a goal as well. GSB followed this performance up with another eight-goal victory by defeating Manville on Thursday, October 10, with a score of 8-0. Solondz recorded a hat trick in the win, as did Delaney Yates ’23, while Raia scored two goals and added three assists.
