Knights Earn Huge Wins to Begin Season

The GSB girls’ soccer team could not have asked for a better start to its season, as the Knights put on an offensive clinic in their first game of the season and followed up with a crucial win over a conference rival.

The Knights got the ball rolling on Tuesday, September 3, as they took down Warren Tech, 8-1. A trio of Knights led the offensive explosion as Emily Raia ’20, Tess Kelly ’22, and Lauren Rossiter ’23 each recorded two goals apiece. Ava DiCesare ‘23 and Katie Scott ‘22 each contributed goals as well. Helping out the cause with assists were Raia, Ava Kolb ’20, Lexi Yates ’20, Taylor Farscht ‘21, Mia Kolb ’22, and Grace Crimi ’23.

Defeating conference rival Immaculate by the slim score of 1-0, Gill kept up the momentum for their following match on Thursday, September 5. Raia connected on the lone goal, while Crimi provided the assist.

“It was good to beat one of the other teams predicted to battle for the division,” Head Coach Mike Williams said. “We were well organized and managed to keep them off the scoresheet which to me was the biggest plus considering they put up three goals earlier in the week against another division contender.”

The Knights look to preserve their perfect record on Tuesday, September 10, against Belvidere.
