Knights Rebound After Win-Streak Snapped

The boys’ soccer team was one of the hottest teams in the state as the Knights won six straight games against tough opponents to improve their record to 6-1.

Unfortunately for GSB, that win-streak was snapped on Wednesday, September 25, when the 17th-ranked Knights fell to Phillipsburg in a shocking 3-2 loss. Adam Berrocal ‘21 and Finlay Turnbull ‘21 each scored in the defeat and goalie Alex Borto ‘22 had eight saves on the day.

However, just as Gill did not let their first loss of the season get them down, the Knights came out firing the next time they took the field, and handed Newark Academy a 7-0 loss on Friday, September 27. David Frankel ‘22 led the offensive outburst with a hat trick, and Jordan Canica ‘21 and Berrocal had three assists on the day. Also scoring for Gill were Turnbull and Micaah Garnette ‘21 and Jaeden Ead ‘21.

“Being able to bounce back is extremely important in any sport,” said Head Coach Tony Bednarsky. “While we do not like to lose games, I am pleased with our response after both losses by putting up seven goals against Princeton earlier in the season and then last week against Newark Academy.”

The Knights return to action on Wednesday, October 2, against Montgomery.
