US Students Participate in Getty Museum Challenge

At the end of March, the Getty Museum in California started an online social media campaign challenging people to recreate famous pieces of art from their collection at home during the quarantine and post them online.

The challenge was especially intriguing for Upper School teacher Jared Ciocco, and he decided to transform this challenge into an assignment for his Latin classes and Ancient Rome class as well. The GSB students recreated ancient pieces of art or modern art depicting scenes from ancient history and ancient mythology.

“Some of the students used some really creative interpretations of several famous pieces of art,” said Ciocco. “It was a different way of having my students look at ancient and modern art and put their own creativity into recreating the works using their own vision.”
