Girls’ Swim Team Improves to 3-0

The girls’ swim team kept up its winning ways on Wednesday, December 18, defeating Voorhees 93-76. With the win, the Knights’ record improved to 3-0, and they are one of only three teams in the entire Skyland Conference to remain undefeated.

The girls’ squad showed a lot of resilience in this meet, as GSB was down by 12 points after the first five events. However, after huge performances in the 100 freestyle by Maddie Soultanian ’22, Scooter Hulsen ’22, and Kelsey Breuer ’20, followed by crucial swims in the 500 freestyle by Olivia Soultanian ’22, Laura Howard ’21, and Caroline Grant ’20, the Knights were able to take a 56-54 lead and never looked back.

Leading the way for Gill was Rebecca Michaels ’20, winning the 200 individual medley (2:22.75) and 100 backstroke (1:05.69). She also had an incredible come-from-behind anchor swim in GSB’s victorious 200 freestyle relay (1:52.05) and also anchored the girls’ winning 400 freestyle relay (4:19.81) to seal the victory.

“Every single girl really stepped up for us today,” said head coach Nolan Silbernagel. “Voorhees has some great swimmers, and the girls were really in a gut-check situation by being down by so many points almost halfway through the meet. Instead of giving up, they fought on to preserve their perfect record.”

The Knights will be back in action against Franklin on January 8.
