Indoor Track and Field Compete at State Relays
The boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams had strong showings at the Non-Public B State Relay Championships on Thursday, January 16, at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
The boys’ squad was led by the shot put relay team of Joe Licata ’22 and Zac Saunders ’22, and they finished second overall just behind Hudson Catholic. Licata had the farthest throw of the day, measuring a distance of 47 feet, 7.5 inches.
Also performing well for the Knights was the distance medley relay team of Will Strong ’22, Tyler Tellalian ’23, James Koether ’21, and Niels Rongen ’20 (fourth place), and the 4 x 400 relay team of Rongen, Teddy Lazar ’20, Koether, and Strong (sixth). Overall, the boys finished sixth out of 11 teams.
Some members of the girls’ team were unfortunately overcome with illness and could not compete, but the other Knights did a great job in stepping in and representing GSB at these championships. The 4 x 400 relay team of Kellyn Bucceri ’22, Mia Kolb ’22, Delaney Yates ’23, and Hayley Armstrong ’21 finished seventh, while the distance medley relay squad of Bucceri, Yates, Armstrong, and Ellen Besjak ’21 took eighth.
The indoor track and field teams will be back at it on January 26 at the Skyland Conference Championships.
