On December 15, Knights basketball recorded an opening-night sweep, with girls’ varsity and boys’ varsity and JV all notching wins over North Hunterdon.
On the road, the 14th-ranked varsity girls’ team bested North Hunterdon 50-14. Junior Sydnei Caldwell led the offense with 26 points and five steals. Freshman Caileigh Walsh contributed eight points in her first high-school game, and classmate Christina Dalce had nine rebounds.
At home, the varsity boys’ squad, currently ranked fourth on NJ.com’s top 20, outscored North Hunterdon 97-48. Leading the scoring was junior Paul Mulcahy with 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Sophomore Will Soucie contributed 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Senior Will Yarborough added another 15 points, four assists and three steals, and senior Alex Schnachne chipped in with 13 points and seven assists. Senior TJ Chaney contributed 10 points and four important steals.
In JV play, the Knights posted a 59-55 win over North Hunterdon. Sophomore Nick Policano contributed 21 points and made clutch free throws down the stretch. Classmate Luca Del Vescovo added 16 points and helped anchor the team with rebounds, while sophomore Parker DeMaira contributed 10 points.
On Friday, December 22, GSB will host the Metro Holiday Showcase. The girls will take on third-ranked Rutgers Prep at 6:00 p.m. followed by varsity boys v. Imhotep Charter (PA) at 7:30 p.m.
