Girls’ Basketball Earns Huge Tournament Win
The girls’ basketball team made a strong statement during the first round of the South Jersey, Non-Public B Sectional Tournament, upsetting higher-seeded Trinity Hall yesterday, 63-40.
The Knights stormed out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and extended it to a 42-15 advantage at halftime and never looked back.
Caileigh Walsh ’21 had another phenomenal performance, filling the entire state sheet by scoring 16 points, while recording 11 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks, and two steals. Also having great performances were Devyn Scott ‘20 (14 points, nine assists, five rebounds), and Ella Fajardo ’21 (13 points, three assists), and Kayla Palaia ’23 (seven points, three steals).
“I love the energy that the girls brought to the game,” said head coach Mark Gnapp. “Right off the bat we jumped on them, and we were led by our captain Devyn Scott.”
The Knights will be right back in action as they face off against Wildwood Catholic, a top-20 program in New Jersey, on Thursday, March 5.
“We have a tough opponent in Wildwood Catholic, as they are currently the sixteenth-ranked team in New Jersey,” Gnapp said. “However, if we play with that same sense of urgency, we can really make some noise during this tournament.”
