Girls’ Basketball Earns Big Win

The girls’ basketball team had an extremely tough schedule to open the season. At 2-4, the Knights lost matchups to some of the best teams in the state, including third-ranked Franklin and sixth-ranked St. Rose.

 

The competition was not getting any easier for Gill as the girls faced tenth-ranked Patrick School on January 5. The Knights were not deterred by their tough opponent, however, and came out with a 37-29 victory.

 

“That’s a great confidence booster for us,” said head coach Mark Gnapp. “We executed our game plan to perfection. The kids played really hard, tough, basketball and really stepped up that game.”

 

Leading the way for Gill was Caileigh Walsh ’21 as she scored 20 points while recording 14 rebounds and five blocks. Also having a strong game was Devyn Scott ’20 as she contributed 15 points and five assists.

 

“Caileigh played unbelievably,” said Gnapp. “She is having a breakout season and is really buying into everything and that is great to see. Devyn also really controlled game from the point guard position and our defense was lockdown as well. We have been working hard in practice each day and have been getting great leadership from our seniors, so I feel like we are heading in the right direction.”

 

Gill looks to keep the momentum going on January 8 when the girls take on Hunterdon Central.
