Yesterday, the boys’ basketball team was crowned Somerset County champions for the fifth consecutive year as the Knights soundly defeated Watchung Hills, 73-53.
Several Knights had big games to contribute to the win. Paul Mulcahy ’19 led the way, scoring 20 points and adding 10 rebounds and nine assists. Tristan Jeffries ‘21 scored 15 points and added six rebounds, and Will Soucie ’20 scored 15 points as well. Zach Martini ’20 contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
Gill has been enjoying an immensely successful season as the Knights are currently the third-ranked team in New Jersey and are 23-4 overall, with one of those wins coming over the top-ranked team in the state.
The Knights are proud to continue their county dominance but have unfinished business heading into the final stretch of the season. Despite all of its successes in recent years, the team has only come away with one sectional title (2012) and no state titles. With an extremely talented roster and high state ranking, this year’s squad looks to add to its trophy collection.
The team begins its state run on Wednesday, February 27 when the second-seeded Knights host 15-seed Cristo Rey at 7:00 p.m.
