Girls’ Volleyball Looks to Grow in Second Season

Last year, the members of the girls’ volleyball team underwent the huge task of creating a brand-new athletic program at Gill. It was an exciting season, filled with learning about the sport and growing as a team. In its second year, Head Coach Mark Signorelli is eager to see how much his team has improved.

“I was lucky last year to have a combination of talented upperclassmen and promising underclassmen,” he said. “It has been rewarding to observe the girls in practice so far this season and realize how far they have come - individually and collectively - since last year.”

Signorelli will have a handful of returning players from last year’s squad on which he will rely continue to solidify the program, including Emily Smith ‘20, Madison Frantz Pendell ‘22, Jessica Jose-Navarrete ‘22, Anya Solanki ’22, and Paige Wortman ’22. The team also welcomes the addition of several new players, some of whom are coming with experience in other programs and clubs.

“We fully expect to be competitive in all our games and tournaments, and to come away with our share of victories,” said Signorelli. “Our first home match is on Family Day (Saturday, September 21).  I would encourage all members of the Gill community to come out and watch us.  They will see for themselves how far we have come since last year.”

Other big dates on the Knights’ schedule includes the season opener at Watchung Hills on September 12, and the West Orange JV Tournament on Saturday, October 12.

Best of luck, everyone!
