Make sure to come out to the GSB campus tomorrow for our annual Homecoming / Family Day celebration! The tents are already being put up, thanks to the amazing work of our operations team, and the weather looks perfect for the fun-filled day.
Excitement and enthusiasm have been building this week for the annual event: yesterday, the Booster Club held its first Home Winds walk of the school year, with GSB parents, coaches, and staff participating in the beautiful 1.5-mile loop around the farmland. Today, the campus was decked in the school colors of blue and white, and the students enjoyed numerus competitions and team-building activities throughout the day while sporting Gill attire. The annual pep rally in the Athletic Center was the perfect way to end the day and get everyone excited about Saturday.
Family Day will feature great sporting events, tasty food, and fun activities for everyone of all ages to enjoy. In addition to concessions at the Booster Lodge, and the delicious sit-down lunch under the tent, back by popular demand, the event will also be bringing back a dessert truck. Younger attendees can find the perfect pumpkin to paint (and even get their faces painted too), and there will be both a bounce house and an obstacle course for them to navigate. Be sure to stop by all the class tables and check out the always popular dunk tank by the senior class table.
Our parent volunteers, especially event co-chairs Jen Meenan P ’24, ’27, and Megan Migliaccio P ’20, ‘24, truly make this event a success each year by helping with numerous aspects of the day and ensuring that it is a fun and memorable occasion for all who attend.
Athletic competition for the day begins at 9:30 a.m. with middle school action, as the co-ed cross country team and the girls’ tennis squad both take on Wardlaw-Hartridge. The middle school programs will continue to showcase their skills at 10:15 a.m., when both the boys’ and girls’ soccer programs face Wardlaw-Hartridge.
JV teams will also be in full display tomorrow as the girls’ volleyball team has its first home match of the season against Immaculata in the Fieldhouse at 11:30 a.m., while boys’ soccer battles Skyland Conference foe Hillsborough at noon, and then girls’ soccer rounds out the JV action by taking on Newark Academy at 2:00 p.m.
Starting right behind cross country will be the varsity girls’ soccer team, as Gill will take the pitch at 12:30 p.m. against Newark Academy. The Knights have been red hot to begin the season, as they own a 6-1 record and have remarkably already recorded five shutouts while outscoring their opponents by a staggering 29-5.
Following up girls’ soccer will be another standout GSB program as girls’ tennis will take the court against Lawrenceville at 2:00 p.m. The Knights so far are 8-2 on the season and are the
seventh-ranked program in the entire state, so you will not want to miss seeing these Knights in action!
Rounding out the day for athletic events will be the boys’ soccer team, as the 16th-ranked Knights battle a very good Hillsborough team at 2:30 p.m. After dropping the season opener against a top-20 opponent in North Hunterdon, the Knights have won four games in a row and Micaah Garnette ’21 and Jordan Canica ’21 have claimed back-to-back Skyland Conference Players of the Week awards.
We hope to see everyone there and, Go Knights!
