For the second-straight year, the boys’ soccer team participated in the Mainline Tournament in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 15. The regional tournament features 34 independent schools in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, and it was attended by numerous college coaches.
Gill was ready to showcase its talents and showed that it was one of the best programs in the tournament as the Knights won their match, 3-1, over Hoosac School (N.Y). Micaah Garnette ’21 continued his blazing hot start to the season as he recorded all three goals for GSB. Jordan Canica ‘21 and Chris Chyzowych ‘21 each contributed an assist. Alex Borto ’22 recorded six saves in the win.
“I was very happy with how the boys performed on Sunday,” said Head Coach Tony Bednarsky. “Hoosac was a quality opponent, and they had defeated Canterbury School, 5-0, earlier in the tournament, so for us to come out with a win was huge. It is also just such an awesome opportunity for our kids to get some exposure in front of the college coaches in attendance.”
The Knights also had a great showing earlier in the week, as they took down Ridge, 7-1, on Wednesday, September 11. Canica was once again a strong factor in the offense, as he recorded two goals and two assists. David Frankel ‘22 also had two goals and Garnette, Nick Kovalenko ‘20, and Jacob Siegel ‘20 each had a goal as well. Adam Berrocal ‘21 recorded two assists while Drew Kramer ‘20 had one assist.
The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, September 18 against Watchung Hills.
