Boys’ Soccer Rebounds After Season Opening Loss

On Wednesday, September 4, the boys’ soccer team did not kick off the 2019 season as it hoped, as the Knights fell in the final minute to North Hunterdon by a score of 1-0.

Sophomore goalie Alex Borto had a strong day between the posts, recording 12 saves before letting up the lone goal of the game with 55 seconds left to play.

While it was a tough loss, the Knights refused to let any disappointment carry over to their next game against Princeton High School on Saturday, September 7. It was a completely different game for Gill, as the Knights scored early and often to defeat the Tigers, 7-3.

Micaah Garnette ’21 led the offensive explosion, as he recorded four goals and two assists. Jordan Canica ’21 also had a great day for GSB, as he tallied two goals and two assists. Adam Berrocal ’21 contributed two assists, and Gavin Scavino ‘22 rounded out the scoring with a goal for Gill.

“I was very pleased with the boys’ positive response to a tough loss,” said Head Coach Tony Bednarsky. “The offense really came together and erupted for those seven goals. It was even more impressive because Princeton Day is a great program, and they have never surrendered more than even four goals, so I am very proud of our players.”
