Boys’ Basketball Falls in Sectional Finals
The boys’ basketball team barely fell to Roselle Catholic in a heartbreaker in the North, Non-Public B Sectional Finals last night, 59-58.
The Knights knew they had a tall task in front of them, as Roselle Catholic entered the contest as the third-ranked team in the entire state. GSB answered the call throughout the entire game, leading 49-42 after three quarters, and having a ten-point lead with only three minutes remaining in the game. Despite coming up just a bit short, Gill played incredibly well against this elite opponent.
Many players contributed to the strong showing in the championship game. Zach Martini ’20 scored 16 points and recorded three rebounds and a steal, while fellow senior Will Soucie scored eight points and had two assists and two rebounds. Denver Anglin ’22 had 16 points while recording seven assists and three rebounds. The freshmen duo of Isaac Hester and Mack Mgbako also really stepped up in their first championship game, as Hester scored 11 points while recording four rebounds, six assists, and four steals, and Mgbako contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
The Knights finish the season with a 20-8 record, the Skyland Conference Delaware Division title, and the ninth-ranked program in New Jersey.
