Ice Hockey’s Comeback Falls Just Short

The ice hockey team showed a lot of heart and determination in the opening round of the Non-Public State Tournament, but ultimately fell to Notre Dame, 7-8, on Tuesday, February 25.

The Knights were without several key players to begin the contest due to illness, and quickly felt the effects of that, falling behind the Irish 5-0 in the second period.

However, just as Gill had done all year, the players never gave up, and were able to close out the second period by cutting the deficit to 5-3 thanks to goals by Christian ‘22 (two goals) and Logan Mote ‘22. After another scoring outburst from GSB courtesy of Brenen Lavoie ’21 (two goals) and another goal from Christian Mote in the third period, the Knights were able to miraculously tie things up with a goal from Connor Udoff ‘21 with only three seconds left in regulation.

Unfortunately, the Knights surrendered the game winning goal early into overtime to fall, 8-7.

Gill ends its season with a 13-6-3 record, and earlier in the month earned its first-ever appearance in the Haas Cup Championship. Great season, Knights!
