Boys’ Swimming Falls in 1st-Round of State Tournament
The boys’ swim team put up a good fight against Oratory Prep on Friday, February 8, but ultimately fell, 107-58, in the first round of the Non-Public B State Tournament.
The Knights were able to claim two individual victories, with Robert Brandl ’20 grabbing first in the 100 butterfly (1:08.66), and Jonathan Osma ’20 winning the 100 backstroke (1:14.14).
The medley relay of Brandl, brother Ryan Brandl ’22, Osma, and Adrian Massuet ’20 took second to open the meet, finishing barely behind Oratory’s first-place relay. The same trio of seniors, along with Akshay Patel ’23, teamed up to take second in the 200 freestyle relay.
“I am so proud of how these boys fought all year,” said head coach Nolan Silbernagel. “We only had eight boys, so the odds were definitely against them, but for them to close out the year with two-straight conference wins and a trip to the state tournament is really outstanding. These seniors were freshmen my first year here at Gill, so I will really miss having them on the roster next season.”
