Lower School

For our youngest learners, our 208-acre campus is a place of aspiration. Whether walking to class accompanied by an eighth-grader, reading Dr. Seuss with a senior or high-fiving a varsity team captain, Lower School children love to spend time with our older students.
Interacting with these students allows Lower Schoolers to see themselves as part of a larger trajectory and to identify with role models. These exchanges help them see that they too—no matter how young—are growing into scholars, artists and athletes in their own right. As part of our Welcome Wednesday tradition, for example, Lower School children have a chance to meet with groups of students from various Upper School programs. On any given Wednesday, children coming into the Lower School will be greeted by the cast from a drama production, members of a varsity team, the robotics club or one of our many musical ensembles. Because of these ongoing exchanges, both formal and informal, our Lower Schoolers are comfortable and confident as they transition from grade to grade and division to division.
