Tony Bednarsky enters his 31st season as the head coach of the Gill St. Bernard’s boys’ soccer team. He is the longest tenured coach at the school and one of the top soccer coaches in New Jersey.

Bednarsky has achieved unprecedented success while leading the Knights’ soccer program. Taking over a program that he has truly been able to “build up from day one,” Bednarsky’s teams have consistently ranked as some of the top in the conference, county and state.

He has won a total of four Non-Public B State titles, 11 Prep B titles, and an incredible 19 conference titles (Skyland, Patriot, Prep Conferences). He has also amassed 512 career wins, 444 with Gill. Bednarsky has had countless players achieve All-Conference and All-State accolades while also going on to play at the NCAA Division I level.

In 2007, he was inducted into the NJSIAA Coaches Hall of Fame and in 2009 he was named the New Jersey Coach of the Year by the Star Ledger. He has also won the past two Skyland Conference Coach of the Year awards.

“I have enjoyed building it up from scratch,” says Bednarsky. “It has been great to really turn it into a reputable program. More than all of that though, I have enjoyed the lasting relationships throughout the years with many, many players I have been able to coach. That is the most lasting to me, more than any score or championship.”

Bednarsky has also served as a Middle School history teacher here at Gill for three decades.
