Boys’ Soccer: Non Public B South Champs

Last night, under the lights in Holmdel, varsity boys' soccer claimed the South Jersey, Non-Public B title in a decisive 4-0 win over Wildwood Catholic. The victory marked the third sectional championship in four years.

The Knights took control early, with Anes Mrkulic '17 scoring less than a minute into the game. Later in the half, Kevin Brito '17 blasted past two center backs to field a through ball and knock in the second goal of the night.

In the second half, a diving save from the Wildwood goalie deflected a low cross shot from Steven Bednarsky '17, but Bednarsky would score minutes later to bring the game to 3-0. With ten minutes left on the clock, the final goal of the night came from Mrkulic firing from the left hash mark.

The team's seniors dominated last night's contest, with goals from Bednarsky and Mrkulic, assists from Brito, Cam Miller, Jack McMahon Mrkulic and nine saves from keeper Alex Roch. Those same seniors played on Gill's state championship team as freshmen in 2013. Junior defensive player August Boland and the rest of the defensive players shut down the Crusaders to pitch a shutout.

The Knights will face Hudson Catholic in the Non-Public B final at Kean University this Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Go Knights!
