Knights Look to Tournament Play

Today begins a high-stakes week for the Knights, with six championship and tournament contests taking place over the next four days.

 

This afternoon, freshman golfer Nick Policano will be competing in the individual rounds of the NJSIAA Non-Public B, North Sectional Tournament. Policano qualified for the event by posting five scores of four over-par-or better throughout the first half of the season. The 18-hole tournament is being played at the Francis Byrne Golf Course in West Orange. The top five players will advance to the Tournament of Champions, scheduled for Monday, May 22, at the Hopewell Valley Golf Club.

 

Also today, boys' tennis will travel to Newark Academy for the second round of the NJSIAA state tournament against the second-seeded Minutemen.  

 

On Tuesday, varsity track and field competes in the Somerset County Championships, held at Hillsborough High School. The team anticipates a strong showing from its throwers, all of whom have been working with renowned coach Mark Mirabelli over the past several weeks. Among the throwing team, junior CJ Licata currently ranks as the best shot putter in the Skyland conference.

 

Also on Tuesday, varsity softball (11-5) hosts Newark Academy (4-15) in the Prep B semi-finals. Softball is enjoying a strong season, having recently claimed a third consecutive Skyland Conference title.

 

On Thursday, the golf team travels to the Peddie School to compete in the Prep B Championships.

 

Last but not least, this Thursday girls' lacrosse (#6) will play Pingry (#3) on the road in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Non-Public B tournament. NJ.com recently designated the Knights as a dark horse in the NJSIAA tournament.
