Weekend Sports Wrap

On Saturday, varsity boys’ basketball defeated Rutgers Prep 71-61 to claim the Somerset County tournament for the third consecutive year. The teams traded points back and forth during the first two quarters with Gill up by only a point at the half. In the third quarter, the Knights outscored Rutgers Prep 20 to 14 and continued to widen the gap in the fourth. Leading the scoring was junior point guard Alex Schachne with 24, followed by sophomore Paul Mulcahy with 18 and senior Michael Morreale with 15. On Wednesday, the boys will face Immaculata at home in the first round of the state tournament.

The girls also took on Rutgers Prep in the tournament finals, losing a hard-fought contest. The team looks to rebound this Wednesday when the Knights play Rutgers Prep again in the first round of the state tournament.

In indoor track, junior C.J, Licata took third place in the shot-put event at the Meet of Champions on Saturday. Senior Erica Phiansunthon competed in the MOC in the shot put but did not medal.

Congratulations to all of our athletes. Go Knights!
