Weekend Highlights: GSB Athletics

In basketball this weekend, varsity boys posted a 63-50 win over Hunterdon Central. The victory brought the team to 15-2, building on a winning streak that began on January 2. Leading the team was sophomore Paul Mulcahy with 12 points, eight rebounds, five steals and six assists. Senior Mike Morreale scored a game high 15 points and fellow senior Evan Storch contributed 14 points.

On Thursday, solid contributions from Mulcahy (13 points, 11 rebounds) junior Alex Schnachne (13 points) and Storch (11 points) helped lift the team to a 64-39 victory over Bridgewater-Raritan. On Tuesday, the Knights defeated Franklin 85-57.  Mulcahy scored a game high 20 points and junior Brad Bundschuh contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds, fellow junior Will Yarbrough contributing 11 points to pace the Knights to victory.

The indoor track team competed in the Skyland Conference Championships this past Saturday at the Jersey City Armory. The day marked another win for junior shot put standout C.J Licata, who claimed the Somerset County Championship and New Balance Games earlier this season. Licata’s 60' shot put smashed all competitors as well as his own school record.

Looking ahead, the Knights have three tournaments scheduled for this weekend. Varsity swimming will compete in the Somerset County championships at Montgomery High School on Saturday. The boys' meet begins at 10:00 a.m., and the girls begin at 4:00. The indoor track team will compete in the NJISAA championships (Prep B) at the Lawrenceville School this Saturday. The meet begins at 3:00 p.m. Also, our freshmen and sophomore fencing teams will be competing in the Montclair Frosh/Soph Invitational at Montclair High School on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.

Best of luck to all of our athletes. Go Knights!
