Coach Sina Celebrates 200th Win with Knights Basketball

Gill St. Bernard’s Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach Mergin Sina earned his 200th win with the Knights yesterday evening, as the sixth-seeded boys’ team (19-7) defeated St. Rose 69-51 to advance to the NJSIAA Non-Public B South Sectional quarterfinals.

Sina first joined the GSB coaching staff in 2003 and successfully led the varsity girls’ basketball program to 106 wins in just seven seasons. Throughout his tenure as head coach on the girls’ bench, Sina also helped his teams to one Prep B crown, two conference titles and back-to-back Somerset County championships. In 2010, Sina was named head coach of the varsity boys and has since helped the program to 94 victories, one State Sectional crown, two Somerset County championships and four division titles. “Mergin has had a profound impact on our girls’ and boys’ basketball programs during his tenure at GSB, and this milestone is a well-deserved credit to the work he’s done on our behalf,” said Director of Athletics David Pasquale, noting numerous male and female athletes who have gone on to play college basketball. “His knowledge, passion, and commitment have helped our programs grow to unprecedented levels under his leadership.”
