Indoor Track and Field Competes at Conferences

The boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams competed at the Skyland Conference Championships yesterday at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
 
The Knights went up against some of the best competition in the entire state and had numerous top-30 finishes to show for it.
 
Having the highest finish for the day was Joe Licata ’22, taking second place in the shot put with an extremely impressive throw of 49 feet, 10 inches. Emily Raia ’20 had the other top-five finish for GSB, taking fifth overall in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7.25 inches. Raia also had a pair of top-20 finishes by grabbing 14th in the 55 meter hurdles, and 15th in the 55 meter sprint.
 
Other top finishes for Gill were the girls’ 4 x 400 relay (12th), Kellyn Bucceri ’22 in the long jump (21st), Niels Rongen ‘20 in the 1600 (26th), the boys’ 4 x 400 relay (15th), Alex Tulenko ’22 in the long jump (22nd), Brian Young ’21 in the long jump (28th), Tyler Lynch ’20 in the long jump (29th), and Zac Saunders ’22 in the shot put (25th).
 
“I was pleased with our performances as the Skyland Conference is one of the best conferences for track and field,” said head coach Shelly LaBarre. “Our athletes work hard in practice, so we are very driven on meet days, and competed with all our heart yesterday.”
 
The team will next be in action on Saturday, February 1, at the Prep B Championships at the Lawrenceville School.
