Indoor Track Has Strong Performances at Counties

The Gill St. Bernard’s Indoor Track and Field teams stayed busy over the holiday break, competing in the Somerset County Championship on Friday, December 27, at Lehigh University.
 
Leading the way for the Knights was sophomore Joe Licata, placing first in the open shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 8.5 inches. Also recording top-ten individual finishes for GSB were junior Ellen Besjak, taking third in the 55-meter hurdles, senior Emily Raia placing just behind Besjak and taking fourth in the event, sophomore Mia Kolb finishing fifth in the high jump, and Raia showing her versatility by taking fifth in the long jump.
 
Gill also had strong showings in the relay events. Raia, Besjak, junior Hayley Armstrong, and freshmen Delaney Yates teamed up to take fourth in Sprint Medley relay, and the team of Raia, Armstrong, Kolb, and Yates also took fifth in the 4 x 400 meters relay. Overall, the girls’ team finished seventh.
