Girls’ Soccer Wins Overtime Thriller

The girls’ soccer team won a game to remember on Thursday, October 31, by defeating Villa Walsh, 1-0, in double overtime to advance in the Non-Public B state tournament.

The sixth-seeded Vikings and third-seeded Knights each played hard in the rainy weather and battled throughout the contest, displaying dominating levels of defense and limiting scoring opportunities. With only a few minutes remaining in double overtime, Gill was finally able to break the tie thanks to a Caroline Solondz '21 goal, which was assisted by Sam Lowe ’20.

“Coming out of regulation time we had the momentum, and the girls’ mental toughness kept pushing them through to make sure it stayed in our direction,” said head coach Mike Williams. “This is ultimately what helped us breakthrough in the end. It’s an incredible showing of resilience and something we will need every game from this point on.”

The Knights’ journey through the state tournament continues on Monday, November 4, as they will either face Saddle River Day or Benedictine.
