Cross Country Records Another Top-10 Finish

The boys’ cross country team enjoyed another top-10 finish at an invitational this season, as the Knights placed eighth out of 15 schools at the Stewart Memorial Invitational on Saturday, September 28.

Leading the way for GSB once again was Niels Rongen ‘20 as he finished 22nd with a time of 18 minutes and 13 seconds.

“Niels drives our team to success by encouraging the underclassmen and by the example he sets with his work ethic,” said Head Coach Mike Parker.

Rounding out Gill’s varsity lineup were Andrew Young ‘21 (40th), Will Strong ‘22 (45th), Teddy Lazar ‘20 (46th), Tyler Tellalian ‘23 (57th), Laksh Patel ‘23 (69th), and Luke Mariak ’20 (73rd).

“The team is running well because the kids practice hard and no one backs away from the work outs,“ said Head Coach Mike Parker. “It is a good sign when the top-five runners are averaging 19 minutes and 13 seconds. Andrew Young and senior co-captain Teddy Lazar had strong races and freshmen Tyler Tellalian and Laksh Patel have improved every race as well. I was also very proud of junior James Koether, who has come back from an injury last year and medaled in the JV race.”

Competing individually in the girls’ varsity race was Anne Wang ‘22, who finished 73rd overall with a time of 26 minutes and 22 seconds.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, October 5, at the Shore Coaches Invitational at Holmdel Park.
