Girls’ Tennis Maintains Top-10 Ranking

The girls’ tennis team remains one of the top programs in New Jersey, as the Knights are now ranked 8th in the state after a pair of wins and a close loss to another state power.

It was a match of two, top-10 programs as Gill (#8) battled Pingry (#7) on Monday, September 9th, with Pingry pulling out the close 3-2 victory. Mayjah Jean-Pierre’21 was victorious in first singles by a score of 7-6, 6-1, and Ella Baker ’21 won from second singles by a score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.

The Knights were able to get right back on track, however, as they took down a solid Montgomery team on Wednesday, September 11, by a score of 3-2. Jean-Pierre and Baker won their matches again and Michaela Kroon ’21 sealed the victory with a win in third singles.

GSB kept the ball rolling on Friday, September 13, against Hillsborough as the Knights won the match 4-1. Gill once again swept the singles matches and the first doubles team of Caitlyn Matthews ’20 and Sophie Nourbakhsh '21 were also victorious.

"It means a lot to us to still have such a high ranking in the state and the girls have been working extremely hard in these first couple of weeks to work out any little kinks in matches," said Head Coach Pat Hensley. "We hope to be at our best at counties in a couple of weeks when we get to counties, we're definitely hungry for more."

Gill will be back on the court today at 3:45 p.m. against Ridge.
