Softball Upset Bid Falls Just Short

The softball squad fell just short of pulling off a huge upset in the first round of the Non-Public B, South sectional tournament yesterday as the 14th-seeded Knights fell to third-seeded Doane Academy 2-1.

Gill was led by a great pitching performance from ace Claire Brouillard ’21 as she struck out 12 batters over six innings while only giving up seven hits and one earned run.

The Knights were able to collect nine hits on the day but crossed home plate only once. Scooter Hulsen ’22 scored Gill’s lone run while going 2-for-4 with two doubles. Kerry Colford ’20 went 2-for-3 with a double as well.

“We came in with a good game plan from the pitching/catching standpoint and we held a really good offense at bay,” said head coach Mike Surella. “Unfortunately it came down to only one or two plays that really changed the game. We went in confident that we could get the win but just fell a bit short.”
