Baseball Earns #3-Seed in State Tournament

The baseball team was awarded the #3-seed in the Non-Public B, North section of the NJSIAA state tournament which is set to begin this week. The Knights earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of Eastern Christian/Morris Catholic at Gill on Friday, May 24. Last year the boys upset top-seeded St. Mary's (Rutherford) in the semifinals before falling to DePaul in the sectional championship.
 
The Knights wrapped up the week with a 10-3 victory over Montclair Kimberley on Saturday, May 18, in Montclair. Junior Eddie McCarthy and sophomore Jake Sempervive led a 17-hit attack with three hits apiece, while senior Mike Giammarino and junior Michael Taylor added two hits and two RBI.

Sophomore Matt Kalinak and freshman Logan Mote scored two runs each, freshman Nate Fodor contributed with a line drive single and a sacrifice fly, and freshman Christian Mote chipped in with a hit and a run scored. Sophomore Joe Skapinetz improved to 4-1 on the mound, striking out nine and limiting MKA to two runs and two hits over five innings. Freshman Carter Nowack struck out three in two innings of work to secure the win.
