Byron Collins enters his third season as head coach of boys’ lacrosse. Collins has an extensive background in the sport, coaching travel, high-school and collegiate programs for over 20 years. His knowledge and passion for lacrosse have been essential in establishing the boys’ program.

Collins has coached at numerous Division I colleges throughout his career, including Rutgers University, Penn State and the University of Delaware. As a head coach, he posted an overall record of 120-57 and helped lead his teams to the NCAA tournament eight times.

At the Division III level, Collins saw immense success while coaching at Stevens Institute of Technology. Over a ten year stretch, his program won 108 games and qualified for the NCAA Tournament six times, advancing to the tournament's second round in 2005 and 2006 and to the quarterfinals in 2004. The 2005 team finished the season ranked 10th in the nation. The Ducks also captured the ECAC Metro Championships in 2007 and 2009.

The longtime coach also worked for two years at the high school level, leading Detroit Country Day to consecutive Division II State Championship appearances from 2011-12, capturing the state crown in 2011.

“I love coaching here at Gill,” says Collins. “It is a great program to take over and really be able to build up from the start. I have a lot of enjoyment in that and take a lot of pride in that. I know that the future will be bright for this team.”

Collins graduated from Whittier College in 1993 with a degree in business administration. As a standout midfielder, he helped the Poets to three straight West Coast Lacrosse League Championships.
